Flotilla 66 Memorial Day Parades
On Sunday May 24th members of Flotilla 66 participated in the Delanco NJ Memorial Day Parade and on Monday the 25th the Riverside NJ Memorial Day Parade. FSO-VE Tom Christopoulos, FSO-PA Gary Christopher, and ADSO-MT Ira and Arline Dolich all drove vehicles displaying Auxiliary Signs. Flotilla Commander Pam Holmes and FSO-SR James Powell rode in the back of Gary Christopher’s truck giving out “life saver “candies to the children along the parade routes. Tom Christopoulos built a small boat which we call our Auxiliary BASL (Boating Awareness Saves Lives) Boat. It is fully loaded showing all the things that are required to be safe on the water. The Delanco parade had about 1000 people in attendance and the Riverside parade had about 2000 people in attendance. After we finished the Riverside parade, we parked the boat across the street from the firehouse and went to our PA stand. We handed out all the brochures that the Coast Guard Auxiliary has to offer. We had many people asking just what it is the Auxiliary does. We explained about all the different areas we assist the Coast Guard and how we work hand in hand with them in keeping America safe. There were some who wanted to know how they could join an Auxiliary unit, so we may have some more new members in the future. There were even some college graduates who wanted to know where they could join the Coast Guard.
In Delanco ADSO-MT Ira Dolich and FC Pam Holmes participated in the Memorial Ceremony where they laid a wreath at the War Memorial in the center of town. At the Memorial Ceremony in Riverside only FC Pam Holmes placed a wreath during the ceremony. We had a great time being in the parades and then working with the public letting them know more about the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
